Why a villa suits a honeymoon

Mykonos is famous for its beach clubs and late nights, and a honeymoon does not have to avoid them. The difference a villa makes is that the noise stays optional. You wake up to your own pool and terrace, eat breakfast when you choose, and go out only on the evenings you want to.

Space is the other reason. A hotel suite gives you a room; a villa gives you the whole house, with indoor and outdoor living areas, a kitchen for a private chef and no neighbours at the next sunbed. For two people, a smaller house often feels more personal than a large one. Villa Casa del Lupo in Lino, near Platis Gialos, has three suites, each with a sea view, and a heated infinity pool of 80 square metres. It is 3.7 km from Mykonos Town and 2.5 km from the airport, so arrival day is short, and its services include daily maid service.

A villa also handles the practical side of a honeymoon well: somewhere to unpack properly, room to spread out for a week or more, and a team that can arrange the special evening without you having to plan it.

Quieter areas for couples

Mykonos is widely known for its beaches and nightlife. Staying away from Chora, the main town, puts some distance between you and the late nights, with the trade-off that dinner in town means a drive. Our guide to where to stay in Mykonos covers every area in detail; these are the ones that suit couples.

EAST COAST

Kalafatis

About 10 km from town and 1.8 km from Agia Anna beach, which people who know Mykonos well often name as their favourite swimming spot. Villa Zenial in Kalafatis has four bedrooms, a private pool and sea views from three of its bedrooms.

Best for: couples who want distance from the scene.

SOUTH-EAST COAST

Elia

Elia is the longest of the island’s best-known beaches, with a mix of honeymooning couples and families. Villa Ariadne’s Mitos here has a master suite with a panoramic sea view from the bed and a bathtub with a sea view through a window.

Best for: a long sandy beach and a slower pace.

WEST SIDE

Kanalia

An elevated area between town and the Ornos bays. Villa Kiya in Kanalia has three detached suites, each with a private entrance and its own Jacuzzi, a sunset lounge by the pool and a sandy beach 150 metres away. Mykonos Town is 4.6 km away.

Best for: sea views without feeling remote.

SOUTH COAST

Lino, near Platis Gialos

Inland from the south-coast beaches, 2.9 km from Platis Gialos and a short drive from town. The three-bedroom Villa Casa del Lupo has a sea view from every suite.

Best for: couples who want beach days without a long drive.

For a day out, Agios Ioannis beach suits a quieter swim, while still having the facilities you need.

Sunset spots

Every Mykonos honeymoon needs one sunset in Chora. Little Venice, where rows of old houses have balconies hanging over the sea, is considered one of the most romantic spots on the island, and many people gather there to watch the sun go down. Next to it, the Kato Mili windmills stand in a row on a hill above the water. Go early, walk the lanes behind the waterfront, and book a table for afterwards.

For the other evenings, the view can come to you. At Villa Faros in Paradisia, the master bedroom looks out over the sea, the sunset and town through a large window, and Villa The Cove, also in Paradisia, has sea and sunset views from its pool terrace. At Villa Kiya, the upstairs bedrooms are listed as sea and sunset view rooms.

On the south coast, Paraga is known for a stylish, intimate beach club scene, and it is worth staying there until sunset. The time moves through the season: at the end of September, the sun sets a little after 7pm.

A private day at sea

Some coves on Mykonos can only be reached by boat, and a private boat lets the two of you spend the day on your own schedule. Through Sail Me Away, the concierge team arranges boat trips around the islands’ most famous beaches and to coves reachable only by sea, as well as longer cruises around the Greek islands.

The yacht charter fleet includes a Ferretti 48ft, a Princess 42ft, a Lagoon 45ft and a Primatist 41ft, with 2 to 8+ cabin yachts, catamarans and motor yachts available overall. For a couple, the question is less about size than about how you want to spend the day: a few swimming stops around Mykonos, or a longer cruise to another island.

Two nearby islands are worth building into your plans:

  • Delos, 2 km from Mykonos, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and, in myth, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. The ferry crossing takes about 30 minutes, which makes it a relaxed half day.
  • Rhenia is the setting for Lifestyle Cooking, where you swim and snorkel while chefs prepare lunch from locally farmed produce and fish and seafood caught in front of you.

Because the meltemi can pick up during the day, keep a spare date in your plans for the boat and let the concierge team suggest a day once you are on the island.

Plan the honeymoon around the right villa

Share your dates and we will suggest villas that suit two. Our concierge can add a day at sea or a private chef at the villa.

Dinner in the villa or out

A good honeymoon rhythm on Mykonos mixes both. Go out on the nights you want atmosphere, and stay in when you would rather not dress up or drive.

In the villa

  • A private chef in your villa who cooks for you at the villa
  • Menus from a Greek breakfast or Mediterranean brunch to a seafood barbecue
  • All-inclusive villa options with a private chef, on request

Out on the island

  • Sunset in Little Venice, then dinner in Chora
  • A long lunch by the sea on the south coast
  • A chauffeur, available 24/7, so neither of you has to drive

Something different

  • A live cooking experience on a secluded beach
  • One-to-one culinary workshops
  • Visits to local farms to pick produce

The chef and the culinary experiences are arranged through Cook For Me, the concierge team’s culinary service. Book the special dinners before you travel, and leave a couple of evenings open to decide on the day.

Best months for a honeymoon

  • June brings the sea above 20°C and the longest days of the year, before the warmest weeks of summer.
  • July and August are the warmest months on land and in the water, and fall within the meltemi season. Book early and plan boat days with flexibility.
  • September keeps the sea above 23°C on average, with days a little cooler than August, which suits long lunches and sunset dinners.
  • May and October are milder at both ends. The sea is cooler, so ask about pool heating: at Villa Faros and Villa The Cove it is available on request at an extra charge.

If you are considering the end of the season, our guide to Mykonos in October covers what stays open and how to plan around it.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

Is Mykonos good for a honeymoon?

Yes, if you plan it around privacy. Mykonos is known for its beach clubs and nightlife, but staying in a villa away from Chora lets you choose when to join in. Elia beach draws honeymooning couples, sunsets in Little Venice are a classic evening, and boat days, private chefs and a driver let you keep the rest of the trip slow and personal.

What is the best part of Mykonos to stay for couples?

It depends on how close to town you want to be. Kalafatis and Elia, on the east and south-east, put distance between you and Chora, with Agia Anna and Elia beaches nearby. Kanalia, on the west side, gives sea views with Mykonos Town 4.6 km away, and Lino, near Platis Gialos, is a short drive from both the airport and the south-coast beaches.

Where can I see the best sunset in Mykonos?

Little Venice in Mykonos Town is the classic choice: many people gather there at sunset, with the Kato Mili windmills on the hill beside it. On the south coast, Paraga is worth staying at until sunset. For a private view, several villas face the sunset, such as Villa Faros and Villa The Cove in Paradisia and Villa Kiya in Kanalia.

What is the best time to visit Mykonos?

For a honeymoon, June and September balance warm weather and warm water. At the Mykonos Port station, the mean daily high is 26.0°C in June and 25.6°C in September, and the average sea temperature is 21.9°C and 23.3°C. July and August are the warmest months, while May and October are milder, with cooler water.

Is Mykonos really expensive?

By the 2000s, Mykonos had become one of Greece's most expensive islands. For a couple, the size of the villa, the month you travel and how often you use a chef, a boat or a driver shape the budget more than anything else. Share your dates through the villa enquiry form and you will receive villa options that fit your plans.
