October is the quiet end of the Mykonos season. Station data from the National Observatory of Athens put the average daily high at 22.0°C (about 72°F), and the sea still averages around 21°C. Airport schedule information runs to late October, and seasonal restaurants and beach clubs set their own closing dates, so a private villa in Mykonos with a heated pool and on-island concierge support is a comfortable way to enjoy it.

October in Mykonos at a glance

October sits between the heat of summer and the rain of winter. At the National Observatory of Athens weather station in Mykonos Port, the average daily high falls from 25.6°C in September to 22.0°C in October, then to 19.1°C in November. Rainfall roughly doubles between September and October, but the October average is still under 20 mm for the whole month.

The wind picture changes too. The meltemi, the strong north wind of the Aegean, blows from about mid-May to mid-September, so October falls after its usual season. Days still vary, which is why sheltered terraces and a warm pool matter more now than in August.

If you are weighing Mykonos in September against October, September gives you warmer water and more of the summer scene. October gives you a slower island, with fewer services to choose from.

In practice, October days are warm enough for lunch outdoors, and evenings stay mild, with a mean daily low of 18.9°C. The station’s highest October reading is 30.8°C, recorded on 7 October 2020, and its lowest is 11.2°C, recorded on 18 October 2011, so pack a light jacket for boat days and late dinners.

The sea cools gradually. The October sea surface average is 21.3°C, with a range of 18.7 to 23.9°C over the month, compared with 23.3°C in September.

What stays open and what closes

October is when the island shifts from summer to winter operations. The most important changes are in transport, so plan those first.

AIR

Flights

Athens to Mykonos is a 45-minute flight. Mykonos Airport’s published destination information covers the schedule period up to 24 October 2026, and the airport advises passengers to confirm any schedule changes with their airline.

Best for: booking direct routes early in the month.

SEA

Ferries

Piraeus, Rafina, Tinos and Syros connect with Mykonos every day of the year. Routes to Paros, Naxos and Santorini are seasonal, and ferries use the New Port at Tourlos, 2 km north of Chora.

Best for: travelling from Athens by sea.

CULTURE

Delos

Delos lies a few miles from Mykonos and is reached by boat. The Ministry of Culture keeps the Delos museum on its summer hours until 31 October.

Best for: a half-day of history.

DINING

Restaurants and beach clubs

Seasonal restaurants, beach clubs and shops set their own closing dates. Those dates change every year and are not published centrally, so ask your concierge to confirm what is open on your dates.

Best for: booking through someone on the island.

Beaches and activities in autumn

With the sea still averaging above 20°C, swimming is realistic.

Days on the water

Some coves can be reached only by sea. The concierge team arranges boat trips and yacht days with a fleet that includes a Ferretti 48ft, a Princess 42ft, a Lagoon 45ft and a Primatist 41ft. In October, plan these around the forecast and keep a spare day.

Chora and Delos

Autumn is a good time to walk Mykonos Town, from Little Venice, where houses with wooden balconies are built against the sea, to the windmills beside it. Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage site and, in myth, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, is a short boat ride away, and its museum keeps summer hours until 31 October.

Food experiences

The team also arranges Lifestyle Cooking on Rhenia island, with swimming, snorkelling and a lunch of local produce and seafood, as well as visits to Rizes Farm. Ask whether each is running on your dates, as autumn availability depends on the weather and the season.

Why a villa works in the shoulder season

When part of the island closes for winter, the house you stay in carries more of the holiday. A villa gives you a warm pool, a kitchen, a private chef and your own schedule, rather than depending on what is still open.

Several villas in the collection have heated pools. Villa Ariadne’s Mitos in Elia has six bedrooms, a private heated pool (heating at extra charge) and a heated Jacuzzi. Villa The Cove and Villa Faros in Paradisia, Tourlos both have heated infinity pools, heated on request at extra charge. Villa Horizon Blu in Kalafatis adds heated Jacuzzis on two bedroom balconies, and Villa Casa del Lupo in Lino, a three-bedroom villa with a heated infinity pool, is 2.5 km from the airport.

Dining in becomes a pleasure rather than a fallback. A private chef in your villa can prepare anything from a Greek breakfast to a seafood barbecue, and a personal chauffeur is available 24/7 to drive you around the island. For help choosing an area, see our guide to where to stay in Mykonos.

Planning checklist for October

  1. Pick your half of the month

Seasonal businesses set their own closing dates, so if particular restaurants or beach clubs matter to you, earlier in the month is the safer choice. Ask the concierge to check before you book.

  2. Book flights around the schedule change

Flight schedule information published by Mykonos Airport runs to 24 October 2026. If you are flying direct from abroad, confirm your route operates on your dates.

  3. Check ferry timetables

Daily links to Piraeus and Rafina run all year, but island-hopping routes are seasonal. Book once your dates are fixed.

  4. Confirm pool heating in writing

Ask for heating when you book and confirm it before arrival.

  5. Reserve dining and boat days early

With fewer venues open, a table or boat day is easier to secure through the concierge team.

  6. Pack layers

Plan for warm afternoons and nights that fall to around 19°C on average, plus a light jacket for the boat.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth going to Mykonos in October?

Yes, if you want calm rather than nightlife. The average daily high at the Mykonos Port weather station is 22.0°C and the sea averages about 21°C, so days are still warm and swimming is possible. The trade-off is fewer services: airport schedule information runs to 24 October, and seasonal restaurants and beach clubs set their own closing dates. A villa with a heated pool, a private chef and concierge support makes up for most of that.

Is it hot in Mykonos in October?

Warm rather than hot. National Observatory of Athens data for the Mykonos Port station give an average daily high of 22.0°C and an average daily low of 18.9°C in October, compared with highs of 25.6°C in September. The warmest October reading on record at the station is 30.8°C. Expect T-shirt afternoons and evenings that call for a light layer.

Is Mykonos still busy in October?

There is no official daily visitor count, but the season is clearly winding down. Flight schedule information published by Mykonos Airport runs to 24 October 2026, ferry routes to Paros, Naxos and Santorini run seasonally from March to November, and seasonal restaurants, beach clubs and shops set their own closing dates. If specific venues matter to you, earlier in the month is the safer choice.

Are beach clubs open in Mykonos in October?

It depends on the venue and the date. Each seasonal beach club sets its own closing date, which changes from year to year and is not published centrally. If a particular beach club matters to your plans, ask the concierge team to confirm it is operating on your dates and to reserve in advance.

Can you swim in Mykonos in October?

Yes. The average sea surface temperature around Mykonos in October is 21.3°C, based on NOAA satellite readings, compared with 23.3°C in September and 18.3°C in November. Calm, sunny afternoons are the most comfortable time to swim, and a villa with a heated pool gives you a warm alternative on cooler days.
